〔Efforts in Hyogo〕

Hyogo is implementing to build culture of resilience based on initiatives to pass on the experiences and lessons learned from the earthquake and promoting opportunities for disaster prevention education in community, school and homes.

International disaster reduction cooperation by a local government

Hyogo invited international disaster reduction organizations to set up their Japanese offices. By cooperating with Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), Hyogo has been carrying out programs to dispatch experts swiftly to overseas' disaster-affected areas while accepting trainees from those affected areas.

  • Send disaster relief donations to overseas' disaster-affected areas, provide relief goods such as blankets and diapers, and dispatch prefectural personnel to disaster-affected areas.
  • The relief donations collected in Hyogo are used in projects for specific purposes such as school reconstruction. Hyogo establishes a relationship with overseas' disaster-affected areas on a medium to long-term basis.
  • Hyogo invited international disaster reduction organizations to set up their Japanese offices in Kobe. These organizations have been strengthening their cooperation by establishing Disaster Reduction Alliance (DRA) led mainly by the Disaster Reduction and Human Renovation Institution (DRI)
